Let go of the past and open the door for a new future
For the past few days, I’ve been reading the book Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza, and ever since, there’s one phrase that can’t get out of my head.
Surrender to possibility.
The thing is, it’s the complete opposite of what most of us are wired to do. We tend to lean into logic, reasoning, and our past experiences to make sense of the present moment and our future. We constantly analyse every tiny signal and try to predict what comes next.
And it’s no surprise that this happens, because our brains are wired to keep us safe. And safe in this context means familiar. Familiar equals predictable. When we repeat the same pattern, we know the outcome. When we know the outcome, we can be prepared, and this gives us a sense of safety.
But if we repeat the same old patterns, how will anything ever change? How will we stop making the same old mistakes? How will we replace our unwanted habits with new ones? And how can we improve our lives if we are anchored in our past experiences?
Here’s where surrendering to possibility and entering the unknown comes into play.
This could be entertaining an idea that seems illogical or unlikely. Trying something new, even if it might not work out. Or it could mean silencing that criticizing voice in your head and taking a shot anyway.
I admit, it’s difficult and sometimes frightening to surrender to possibility. It’s as if you’re letting down your guard, your protective shield and becoming vulnerable. But when you do, it’s transforming and life changing.
The Beauty of Unpredictability
When I was younger, I always thought that I couldn’t affect my life. I believed that I had to play with the cards that I was dealt and accept them. For a long time, I did.
I mean, if I were to travel back in time and tell my younger self about writing posts about my experiences and sharing my knowledge around mindset, personal growth, and building a better life, I would probably smile in disbelief and say, “You must be talking to the wrong person,” and walk away.
Why? I never could have imagined it, not in a million years.
I don’t exactly remember what the turning point was, but I do remember how sick I was of always feeling tired, stressed, and miserable. At the same time, a part of me that I had buried deep inside refused to believe that this was it. That this was all life had to offer.
As time passed, the pain of staying the same grew unbearable, and I could no longer ignore the rebellion in me that I had tried to silence for so long. So, I started to play with the idea: What if (just maybe) things work out?
And guess what happened? My life started to shift. I no longer reasoned myself out of possibilities; instead, I gave it a shot. Instead of being afraid of what would happen or what others would think, I surrendered to the possibility that things would work out. And often they did.
I experienced things I never thought I could. I began to behave more aligned with my values, which led to feelings of fulfillment and happiness. I found my way out of survival mode, so I could heal and focus more on the future life I wanted to create. My anxiety, stress, and fatigue started to fade away as I became more excited about life.
And that’s the beauty in surrendering to possibility. You cannot foresee what will happen. You just have to wait and let it unfold.
Set Foot Into a New Future
As mentioned earlier, our brains are wired to prefer the familiar. Familiar is safe and generally a good thing. But if you are looking to change your life, dump unwanted habits, or create a different future, this can become the trap that keeps you stuck.
Because the more we rely on logic and our past experiences, the more these determine our present and future.
We repeat the same thoughts, habits, and patterns over and over again. Over time, they become so automatic that we don’t even notice them, and slowly they begin to restrain us.
That’s why the idea of surrendering to possibility is so powerful. It’s like cracking a door open and taking a peek at all the unknown possibilities.
Surrendering to possibility helps to silence the analytical mind and allows creativity to emerge. You’ll become more aware of options that your brain normally would dismiss subconsciously.
It forms new thinking patterns as you experience new things, situations, and emotions. And as you experience the unpredictable, the invisible obstacles that have kept you stuck in your old habits and beliefs begin to dissolve.
Surrendering to possibility means letting go of the past and becoming more present. It’s opening up to the possibility, that things will work out, get better, or change. It’s opening the door for a new life and a new future. Maybe even one that you never could have dreamt of.
Surrender to possibility and discover what’s truly possible.
